Retainers are often requested to replace traditional metal jewelry during surgery, MRIs, x-rays, and other medical procedures. Glass retainers offer a safe material to keep piercings open when regular jewelry can't be worn. That said, caution must be taken when wearing small gauge glass; it can break when force is exerted on it. For this reason, it is not recommended to wear during athletic or other physical activity.
This retainer is designed specifically for a nostril piercing, with a flat disk on the outside and an L-bend that makes it appropriate for either nostril. O-rings are not required, as the jewelry's shape keeps it in place.
